Stefanie Parks

I’m a fantasy author who loves writing magical stories.

I was born and raised in the beautiful county of Derbyshire which became the inspiration and setting for my stories.

I trained as a teacher at Derby University and after working locally for five years, decided to explore the world with my husband, Adam.

Together we have worked our way around a handful of countries and are currently living in Christchurch, New Zealand. I have written consistently during our travels; my stories always linking me back to my homeland.

The Butterflies of Meadow Hill Manor was inspired by my time living in the beautiful market town of Belper, and a local Victorian country mansion, Makeney Hall, gave rise to the book’s fictional manor.

When I’m not writing, I enjoy wild swimming, spending time with Adam, spoiling my two cats and of course, reading.

Fun Facts

Place

Apart from my home, my favourite place in the world is a small local beach called Corsair Bay. It’s a ten minute drive from my house and I visit every week. Sometimes to walk, sometimes to read and always to swim!

Countries

Being a teacher enabled me to travel a little. I have taught in schools in Derbyshire, UK, France, The Seychelles, The Netherlands and New Zealand. Each country has been a completely different and wonderful experience.

Food

I’m obsessed with the British classic - baked potatoes! I would eat baked potato and salad every night but unfortunately, my husband doesn’t enjoy them quite as much as I do!

Books

My favourite genre is fantasy but I do read widely. I find it impossible to choose one favourite book but some that have resonated strongly and inspired my writing include; Tom’s Midnight Garden, The Owl Service and Rebecca.

Weird Hobby

One of my hobbies is open water swimming. I love to swim in the ocean and in mountain lakes. My friends and I swim right through the winter which gets pretty cold - refreshing!

Animals

My favourite animals of all are my two cats, Bella and Esme, but I also love birds, frogs and of course, butterflies! My garden attracts lots of butterflies in the summer and I love to sit on my balcony and watch them.

I love a good therapy session and often try out new therapies. For me, attending therapy regularly helps me reflect upon and deal with whatever life throws at me. My favourite therapies are sound therapy, massage and reflexology.
