Stefanie Parks

I’m a writer who loves creating contemporary fantasy stories. I’ve always been fascinated with the concept of magic in real world settings.

I was born and raised in the beautiful county of Derbyshire, UK which became the inspiration and setting for my first stories.

I’m trained as a Special Educational Needs Teacher and now work in the disability sector helping families to understand and access autism supports.

I live in Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand with my husband and two cats.

When I’m not writing, I enjoy swimming, growing my house plant collection and reading.

Fun Facts

Place

Apart from my home, my favourite place in the world is a small local beach called Corsair Bay. It’s a ten-minute drive from my house and the setting for my third book.

Countries

Being a teacher enabled me to travel a little. I have taught in schools in Derbyshire, UK, France, The Seychelles, The Netherlands and New Zealand. Each country has been a completely different and wonderful experience.

Food

I’m obsessed with the British classic - baked potatoes! I would eat baked potato and salad every night but unfortunately, my husband doesn’t enjoy them quite as much as I do.

Books

My favourite genre is fantasy but I do read widely. I find it impossible to choose one favourite book but some that have resonated strongly and inspired my own writing include; Tom’s Midnight Garden, The Owl Service and Rebecca.

Weird Hobby

One of my hobbies is open water swimming. I love to swim in the ocean and mountain lakes. My friends and I swim right through the winter which gets pretty cold - refreshing!

Animals

My favourite animals of all are my two cats, Bella and Esme, but I also love birds, frogs and of course, butterflies! My garden attracts lots of butterflies in the summer and I love to sit on my balcony and watch them.

I love a good therapy session and often try out new therapies. For me, attending therapy helps me reflect upon and deal with whatever life throws at me. My favourite therapies are sound therapy, massage and reflexology.
